Getting Started

What is Lot.my?
Lot.my is the new domain dedicated for Malaysia’s e-commerce sites. The domain is now open for registration and is totally free for everyone.
Not only that, Lot.my also comes with a great e-commerce system that allows you to create your online store easily.

I don’t know IT. Can I still use Lot.my?
Yes, of course. Lot.my is very easy to use. If you are able to send emails and browse websites, it means you’re good enough to use Lot.my.
Plus, we provide Manuals and Support too, so you’ll get all the help you need along the way.
 
What software do I need to run my online store?
Lot.my is web-based, so you don’t need any software.
This means no downloads and no installations.
What you need is just a computer with an Internet connection.

I already have a website/blog, why should I use Lot.my?
If you already have an e-commerce website, Lot.my can help you do cross-marketing. At Lot.my, you can open another store to compliment your existing one. More ways people to find your products, means more money for you.
If you already have a website but with no e-commerce yet, Lot.my is the place to get started to sell online. At Lot.my, you can get complete e-commerce features, without spending money or time to develop it yourself. Plus, Lot.my allows you to easily link to your original website with the automatic ‘back to main page’ link.

If you already run a blog, Lot.my can help you create a proper online catalog for your products. You can showcase your products better in categories, with multiple pictures and descriptions too. Plus, you can easily advertise your products in your existing blog by adding the auto-generated ‘add to cart’ buttons from Lot.my. (See examples at blog.lot.my)

Do I need to use English for my store?
No. Although the Admin Page is in English, you can use any language (including Bahasa Malaysia) for your welcome note, product description, product categories and other store contents.

Pricing

How much does it cost to open an online store?
Opening an online store on Lot.my is free of charge.
But we’ve received so many requests from Lot.my users who want to have more features. So, we’re currently in the process of improving Lot.my. Soon, we’ll introduce a premium account for users who want to enjoy those new features. (The free accounts will still be available.)

Are there hidden charges?
No. We hate hidden charges.
No registration fee. Registering on Lot.my is free.
No termination fee. You can terminate your account at any time.
No transaction fee. Your customers pay directly to you, not through us. So you’ll get the full amount (unless you use payment gateway or Paypal).

Store Design

I’m not a graphic designer. Can I change the store design?
Yes. You can change the store theme and background easily by going to the Store Design section. We have prepared several themes and hundreds of beautiful background templates for you to choose from.

Can I add personalize my store?
Yes. You can upload your own logo and banner, and customize the welcome note as you wish. You can then choose any of the readymade themes and backgrounds to suit your store. You’re free to change the positions of the modules and even add your own custom modules, like advertisement, chat box, followers list, sponsors, etc.

Selling Products

How many products can I add?
For free account, you can list up to 4 products at one time.
If you need more than 4, please upgrade to the premium account.

Can I sell downloadable products?
Yes. Lot.my supports downloadable products too. So you can sell downloadable files like recipes, pictures, tutorials, maps, e-books and others easily.

Can I offer discounts or coupons to my customers?
Yes. Lot.my helps you to manage your coupons and discounts easily.

Managing Orders

How do I know if someone purchases my products?
Lot.my will automatically send an email notification to you to inform you that an order has come in. You can also check the Order List at your Admin Page from time to time to see new orders. You can view his name, his contact information, the product he purchased and the date of purchase.

What do I need to do after my product is purchased?
First, check whether your customer has sent the full payment to you. Then, prepare the product and deliver it to your customer. Next, inform your customer that you have delivered it. If you need invoices and receipts, don’t worry because Lot.my automatically generates them for you.

How will I know if my online store is doing well?
Lot.my not only comes with complete e-commerce features. It also has powerful marketing features too. At your Admin Page, you’ll be able to view Orders List, Customers List and more. You can also see statistics such as Daily Visitor Counts, Most Viewed Products, Most Purchased Products, Sales Statistics and other relevant charts.

Accepting Payments

How can my customers pay me?
Your customers can pay you using many ways:
1.    Manual – cash (cash on delivery, cash in store), cheque, money order, direct bank transfer (via manual deposit or online banking).
2.    Automatic – credit card, Paypal, e-debit (auto bank transfer).
Just go to the Payment Section in your Admin Page and select as many payment options that you want to offer at your store. When your customers buy something from you, they can then choose from the list of options that you offer.

Are there transaction fees?
No. Although other websites like eBay charge transaction fees, we don’t charge any transaction fee at all.
At Lot.my, your customers pay directly to you, so you’ll get the full amount.

Can I accept payments from outside of Malaysia?
Yes. You can also receive payments from overseas.
The best way to get payments from overseas is by accepting credit cards or Paypal.

Can I accept payments manually?
Yes, of course. You can accept mailed cheques or money orders. You can also accept direct bank transfers (via manual deposits or online banking). You can even offer to meet your customers for cash-on-delivery or invite them to come and pay at your physical store.

Can I accept credit cards?
Yes. If you have a ‘payment gateway’ or Paypal account, you can accept credit cards.

What is a ‘payment gateway’?
Payment gateway is a service that authorizes online payments.
If you have a payment gateway merchant account, you can accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) and e-debit (Maybank2u, Cimb Clicks, RHB Online, Hong Leong Online, AmOnline, Alliance Online), directly in your store.
To register for a payment gateway merchant account, you can register through us. We recommend using iPay88 or NBePay, both were Malaysian payment gateway companies. iPay88 and NBePay both charge setup and transaction fees.

What is Paypal?
Paypal is an international third-party processor that allows you to accept online payments through its merchant account.
If you have a Paypal account, you can accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and Paypal payments.
To register for Paypal, go to www.paypal.com.my. You have to have a credit card or debit card. Paypal charges transaction and withdrawal fees.

Do I need to have a payment gateway or Paypal account to open a store?
No. To open a store on Lot.my, you don’t need a payment gateway or Paypal account. Without it, you can still receive payments manually.

Your Account

Can I use my own domain name?
Your store automatically comes with its own unique lot.my domain name.
But if you would like to use another domain name such as .com or .com.my, you have to buy it and set it to redirect to your Lot.my store yourself.
In the near future, we plan to offer other domain names for the premium account.

Is hosting included?
Yes. Your store is hosted for you. So, you don’t have to worry about hosting.

Can I have more than 1 online store?
Yes. But each online store must be registered to a different email address.

Can I cancel my store?
We would hate to see you go but you can cancel your store at anytime.
No contracts. No commitments. No cancellation fee. You just need to inform us.
